Not a great idea to change seat heights when changing styles. Your body is YOUR body, and doing what's most comfortable and what enables you to play with more accuracy and technique is what the focus should be. Whatever height works for you is where you should sit regardless of style of music.
It can actually be physically damaging to be constantly changing.

I don't think seat height alone has much of an influence on back problems later. It's the way you sit that causes back issues. Leaning (any direction) or slouching are the worst offenders. Those can be a problem at any seat height.

its not the playing ist the setting up and breaking down that does my back in - really bad. one of my motivations to succeed is so i can have a roady and a tech to take care of all that stuff. i dream about it.... Yeah, for me the setting up tearing down thing can be brutal. You have to remember to either get your cases up to your level or if your cases are on the floor, stoop down to place/remove items. In this way you're not bending at the waist which is the worst thing for your back, especially if you are lifting a load.

As for seat height, I had a really low Pearl seat that put my legs parallel to the ground when my feet were flat on the pedals; when I played heels up (which I do about 90%) my knees were slightly above. I got a new seat that at it's lowest point was about 1" higher and it ended up beeing sooooo much more comfortable as it put my thighs parallel when my heels were up. I agree that the leaning and twisting are worse on your back; and it's very important to be centered and balanced on the seat. If you're leaning in you place your weight on the pedals and that can cause undue stress on your back.
